Half right. OP’s title is massively misleading. Private SSA cloud, the complaint is about where oversight comes from.
OP, please revise your title to match the article, it is currently misinformation.
The complaint is about where the oversight comes from. This is not some random cloud server.
“S.S.A. stores all personal data in secure environments that have robust safeguards in place to protect vital information,” he said. “The data referenced in the complaint is stored in a longstanding environment used by S.S.A. and walled off from the internet. High-level career S.S.A. officials have administrative access to this system with oversight by S.S.A.’s information security team.”
First paragraph, if you’re not familiar with what is happening there:
A Donald Trump-appointed federal judge has dismissed the case brought by the Department of Justice against the entire Maryland judiciary over a standing order that bars the government from deporting undocumented immigrants for at least one day after they file a legal challenge to their detention.
How does one even come up with this idea?

The Salt Lake Tribune examined Talbot’s licensure and found that even after his firing, his license remains active on state websites and no disciplinary actions are attached to his name.
Talbot has been accused of inappropriate conduct with clients before this incident. Similar allegations to the current ones were made against him in 2020 but by underage girls at a residential mental health facility, according to Provo police.
Mmhmm. And…
In a probable cause statement, investigators noted that Talbot did not deny any of the allegations levied against him.
Talbot’s attorneys have denied the allegations.
Mmhmm
Whoever managed licensing in 2020 should be questioned if nothing is on his record and this happens again.
Context. He immediately followed it up with:
Stringer noted that real officers do not wear ski masks.
I don’t think this is the officer to complain about.
This helps for context: https://techcrunch.com/2025/08/21/ecosia-has-offered-to-take-stewardship-of-chrome-and-its-not-a-bad-idea/
TLDR; If the lawsuit goes bad, and Google is forced to sell Chrome, it’s a way for them to retain ownership while working with an existing partner to overcome the monopoly ruling.
Still a win win in my book.
I’d like to understand what this math was before accepting this as fact.
Oh yea, agree it’s a dumb move. This should be on-prem data IMO.
