It’s been a while since I’ve been in a history class, but I wanna say France was typically considered the US’s closest ally during and after the revolutionary war. Not sure how close that relationship has stayed since, though.

I’d imagine the Americans applying for refugee status are among those who also aren’t spouting the usual American exceptionalism bullshit. There’s a reason they’re trying to get out of the country. We’re not a monolith, after all.
