Well, this is… wildly disturbing. Is this leading to the American Holocaust? Or am I just being catastrophic again? I had the same thought when they started their database of autistic people.
The US’s treatment of trans people already falls under the UN’s definition of genocide. They’re trying to wipe us out in our entirety. The UK is as well.

To add more context, the push to ban trans affirming care even in adults is not going to make people magically detransition. It’s intended to make us kill ourselves. Trans people already have one of the highest suicide rates due to how society tends to treat us. It’s close to 50% attempted (specifically measured at 41% in 2011 under Obama, but I admittedly haven’t kept up with that stat)
Another issue is that HRT isn’t something you can just turn off, especially at later stages in transition, and will cause all sorts of major medical issues such as osteoporosis. Cutting off our medication is intended to kill us slowly if not through suicide.
Also, nearly all trans people are neurodivergent, so RFK talking about throwing autistic and ADHD people in labor camps extends to us too.
Finally, states like Florida have laws that can take away trans children from supportive parents which fits another UN definition of genocide:
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
I’d be a lot less worried if it wasn’t for the many tens of millions of citizens watching the rise of fascism and saying, “yes, this is what we want, keep going”. As things currently stand, Trump could very feasibly win a third term with an actual majority vote.
No, it’s definitely the goal. They have an in-group who the law doesn’t bind but protects, and everyone out of that group is bound by the law and does not protect.
LGBTQ+ and ASD reject authority for authorities sake. We are a threat. They know we are a threat.
I read that autistic people are almost exclusively left leaning voters who are naturally resistant to propaganda and authority figures. It’s not just that we’re a conveniently sized minority group to target (Nazi style), but we’re also an obstacle (and an extremely convenient scapegoat) just because of the way we are.
I’m also very prone to catastrophic over-thinking, so I’m hesitant to believe they’re planning on killing us. But despite what I might tell myself to make this easier, it’s painfully obvious what’s happening.
Believe it or not, I know a lot of autistic people who were and are conservative voters. They weren’t diagnosed, but this was a time before the diagnosis was widely recognized.
I come from a family of electrical engineers. My parents. My uncle. My aunt went into psychology and if you could guess why the first two guesses don’t count. My mother clearly has it. Her brother and sister clearly have it. Her brother is a cough away from being MAGA.
There’s a joke in my family. “Autism spectrum disorder? Back in my day we just called them engineers!”
My grandmother, who I never knew, probably had it. My great uncles were electrical engineers, all definitely have it. They are also life long conservatives, that if they didn’t vote from Trump I’d be surprised.
Of the clearly autistic individuals I’ve worked with, they were mostly conservative.
The link? Religion. Religion gave them all the comfort of black & white thinking we naturally tend towards. Since they’re not diagnosed, they won’t see the problem. This plays exactly into the whole goal. They aren’t part of the in group, but they think they are. Pretty much all of MAGA isn’t part of the in-group, but they all think they are.
Musk and Theil both claim to be autistic. So I think it can go both ways.
I am now rethinking my desire to get my autism officially diagnosed
I got officially diagnosed, but my Psychologist doesn’t report it anywhere or add it to any medical system. All I have to prove it is a ten page pdf of her diagnosis of me.
Is the diagnosis helpful to you at all, in any concrete ways?
The one positive for trying to get my neurodivergance diagnosed is that I’m not actually autistic - I have ADHD and a few other disorders that made it look like I’m autistic.
ADHD can be medicated, the other dx’s need therapy but I’m not as stuck as I thought would be.
I’m not saying autism is bad and that there isn’t help for it, just that I’ve been able to find help specifically for my issues after diagnosis
What made you think you were autistic?
I have problems processing sensations, especially auditory and light. I tend to feel that nothing is worth my attention if it’s outside specific categories. I was walking much sooner than my peers, but refused to speak until after I was a toddler (this is when my little brother began speaking). I have extremely black and white thinking about everything. Eye contact is brutal. I’m very monotone, especially for someone afab. I get stuck on words and need to repeat them until they’ve become meaningless. I usually under-react to things. My life is guided by fear.
It helps with my mental health and being able to manage my autism, because for 33 years I didn’t know I was autistic and I just hated myself.
I’m 110% certain I am, and it also helps me immensely to know that. I was just curious if any additional benefits came with the official diagnosis.
I’m sure there would be if I had the courage to tell my employer. Or maybe I could get affordable health insurance/therapy?
If you do find the courage, I recommend doing it in a way that it seems relevant and apropos to whatever discussion you’re having, rather than bringing it up separately at random. And make it known to HR too. Because once they know it, they become WAY more reluctant to end your employment for any reason.
Nope. Not currently.
But, if you suspect it, you have family that can probably confirm it. You can then start to learn how to save the energy you were wasting while camouflaged and put it into what matters to you.
Unfortunately I have family who don’t want to acknowledge that it could possibly be real, because then they would have to admit they did parenting completely wrong.
Two questions to think about before you ask:

Eventually it would, I have no doubt. My best guess is that the federal government will implode before we get to that point. Then we’ll have a whole new set of problems.
I hope you’re right. Trying to live through the complete collapse of American society won’t exactly be pleasant, but it’s better than dying in a concentration camp.
As soon as I saw RFK’s “speech” about his autistic person database, hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I haven’t felt safe since. I have an autism diagnosis from a doctor which I used to apply for federal disability a few years ago. I am absolutely on their list.

Holy shit that’s terrifying. I tried to get our one trans kid to get a passport under Biden but I guess he didn’t think it was that urgent. He’s going to go look RIGHT NOW on how to get one. I told him the cheap card will get him to Canada or Mexico, but if he wants the whole book passport I’ll pay for that too.
My wife and I have ours good for another 5 years but none of the three kids have one at all.
