Amid the ongoing shutdown, the HHS secretary wiped out entire offices that investigate disease outbreaks, manage infectious disease responses and collect data.
this feels like the USSR breakup. EVERY STATE FOR THEMSELVES
Yeah I’ve been thinking this for awhile. The US isn’t all that dissimilar to the Soviet Union was just before it collapsed. When people start thinking their ideology will magically solve a nation’s problems instead of having skilled people working on those problems, that’s not a country that can function for very long.
You never know, the US could turn things around. But right now it seems to be running on fumes. There’s still people working in government in agencies that were formed when the government was run by somewhat competent people, so they’re keeping the lights on. But if these ideological purges (not to mention general malaise) continue, there won’t be enough to keep the lights on.
When I suggested the US balkanize I was hoping it’d be the States idea, not that the Fed would just literally crumble in front of our eyes.
The fall of America was pretty much guaranteed because the south and Russia never stopped fighting.
The fall of america was guaranteed when they made the choice to remain an imperial state.
Like butter over too much bread, the US has spread itself so far, so thin, as to dilute its identity and contain too many, too different ideas.
The interconnectedness of the modern World was always going to result in the downfall of the US as a single entity. California is effected by Florida’s decisions because that’s how this country works. But now they can Fight online about it. Tensions rise. The powder keg will blow.

This sounds DANGEROUSLY close to immigrants bad. And, like, do you want to leave the tyrannies of the world unanswered. I’d certianly prefer the hegemony of 2015 America over any modern Auth hellscape
No no no that’s not what I meant. I ABSOLUTELY see what you mean though.
I was more speaking on the idea that people with similar ideas tend to congregate, but when you’ve got such different places as Florida and California for example, there is bound to be significant infighting. That’s like the UK sharing a tent with Iraq. They’re separated by like 2500 miles, these are people’s with different priorities, different lifestyles, different cultures. Its not to say they can’t get along, but it should be under a federation more similar to the EU, a coalition of independent smaller Nations. NOT directly under the same national flag, and forced to be under the same code of laws.
Like, I get that this is skating the line of being xenophobic, but my intention isn’t to prevent people from coming into a space, it is to prevent the space from expanding to contain people who don’t want to be in it.

Different cultures? Hardly, the only reason there so much fighting is because the southern strategy was so effective they took it nation wide. Its intentional. Its not hard to get all of us to sing along we all loved James Dean for 50 years before this and it wasn’t an issue. The only thing that was promised is when the rich have more power than entire countries they will use that to solidify their rule. America is a testing grouns for hostile corporate take over of a nation.
I’d argue that the US definitely has and had different cultures throughout it, hell the 13 colonies all had different cultures from eachother. The only reason it seemed like there was ever a unified culture is because WW1, the Great depression/dust bowl, and WW2 caused lots of folks to move about and amalgamate culturally. Note I ain’t talking about the cultural melting pot but moreso it’s nutrient paste cousin where everything is homogeneous to the point of having no flavor, the type of culture that lots of suburbanites have that you can find in SoCal as easily as you can find it in Massachusetts.
