Fuck that; I’m American and I use my vacation time to go on vacation.

I don’t care if it bankrupts me; if I don’t get out of town at least once or twice a year I will go insane. So what if I gotta eat ramen for the next three months after that, work/life balance is everything.

As an American who works for Germans with German benefits, I’m never leaving. The pay is probably 10% lower, but the 2 months of PTO and cheap/good health insurance mean I’ll stay until they drag me out

I’m going to have 5 weeks every year starting in February and I have no idea what to do with it all. I definitely can’t afford to vacation.

I spend a lot of my vacation visiting family and friends I wouldn’t get to see otherwise.

Typically crashing with them and helping around the house so I’m not a burden, then camping or grilling or otherwise chilling.

I spread mine out through out the year as 3 day weekends. I can’t afford to go anywhere, and will lose them if they’re not used up. It’s a rest/do shit at home/Dr appt day.

          It’s a rest/do shit at home/Dr appt day.

In other words, you’re using your vacation time to sleep. Which means the headline is accurate. Americans are in a weird limbo where they have juuuuust enough vacation time to feel like they have enough. But not enough to actually plan any big trips, and not enough money to actually afford it. So they just end up using it to get an extra day off once or twice a month, to be able to catch up on all the shit they are behind on in their personal lives.

Because the 40 hour work week was made with the intent of having one adult working to support the household, while the other adult took care of the errands and chores. But since wages have stagnated, families can’t afford to live off of just one income anymore. So both adults end up working, which means the household suffers.
